Helen Millichap

Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) seconded to the College of Policing from the Metropolitan Police Service, Helen is the Director for the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Public Protection – a collaboration between the College of Policing and National Police Chiefs’ Council to achieve the highest possible standards for victims, bring more offenders to justice, and continue to tackle the ever-growing threat of VAWG. Helen holds this role alongside responsibility for policing’s national VAWG portfolio.

Helen joined the Met in 1997 and spent her first years working in East London, specialising in supporting victims of sexual and domestic abuse. She has worked in both detective and uniformed leadership roles across many different parts of London, including as the Borough Commander in Haringey and the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and as the Met’s Commander for Learning and Development, Royalty and Specialist Protection, and Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection.

More recently, she was the Met’s DAC for Local Policing and held responsibility for Trust and Legitimacy, including the delivery of culture reform. In 2024, she was awarded a KPM for overseeing protective security operations during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the funerals of the Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, and the management of the Met’s response to tackling Violence against Women and Girls.

Helen is delighted to be an Advisory Board member and to support this powerful work.
