Neil Basu - Trustee

Anil (Neil) Basu is a retired Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service. He served there consecutively from 1992-2022. As a career detective, he served in every rank up to Detective Superintendent and is the only officer to have held the top three positions in Counter Terrorism Policing. He led the operational response to the 2017 terror attacks and in 2018 succeeded Sir Mark Rowley to become the first Asian to lead the UK’s CT Policing organisation.

 He led UK Policing’s most senior leadership course in 2021 at the College of Policing and retired in November 2022 as the most senior officer of colour in the UK. He received the Queen’s Policing Medal in 2016.

He remains a trustee of Police Care UK and the Patron of TiNYG, an international not for profit counter terrorism research body for the private sector. He continues to write, lecture and advise on matters of police, criminal justice and national security concern.
