What we’re here to do

 Grit’s Higher Education learning event

Thanks to all those university partners who came along to the latest Grit learning event this month. We had a great turn out with friends and colleagues from a dozen universities, and we certainly covered a lot of ground… engagement, staff buy-in, evaluation, the diversity of ways universities engage with Grit…

It’s proving a great opportunity for colleagues from different universities to connect and share what’s working as well as their challenges - especially for those newer to Grit to hear from those a bit further on in their Grit journey.

These events are open to staff at any university involved in commissioning or delivering a Grit programme. Email Ellie@grit.org.uk to make sure you are on the invite list for the next one.

What we’re here to do

“The main way the training has impacted the team is by bringing a sense of togetherness… it’s brought out strengths and qualities and people have committed to support one another. Ultimately if we support one another,  we will then support children, young people and families better. That's what we're here to do.”

Staff from Children's and Education Services in Nottingham City Council took part in a Grit 3-day workshop. Watch our brand new film where, six weeks later, they talk about the impact Grit has already had on culture and practice.

The journey begins

It’s that time of the academic term when we do a lot of work enrolling students onto our programmes. Enrolment is about meeting people at the very start of their journey. Kim, our Enrolment Lead, talks about what this means in practice.

“Enrolment sessions are an opportunity to connect with prospective participants, learn about their goals, and hear what they want to develop - whether it’s building confidence, gaining new skills or exploring new opportunities. Through these conversations we begin to understand their motivations and support them in taking their first steps.

It’s always such an exciting moment - meeting students for the first time and understanding what matters most to them.

And it’s a chance for students to get a feel for who we are, what we do, and how we work.

Every time there’s that feeling of a new Grit community of students starting to come together, starting to grow. These are moments of new possibilities and new beginnings. The journey is beginning and it is always such a thrill.”

Enrolment Lead, Kim
