Reflecting on the Journey

Here at Grit we are winding down a little as things get a bit slower over the month of August. We have realised how important it is to top up our resources by resting, relaxing, laughing with friends, doing the things we need to do to switch off and restore after a very demanding year.

Looking back over the year we’ve seen demand for Grit continuing to grow: we’ve been piloting new programmes and developing a whole new set of conversations. We ran major projects in schools across Warwickshire, London and Swindon, combining intensive workshops and online support from our Virtual Coaches; and we’ve re-started our work with local authorities.

It’s been so good to be ‘back in the course room’ after all the disruption but we continue to deliver online where it can work best. And we’re proud to have maintained the quality of delivery and results amidst significant change and end the year stronger, more adaptable and with a renewed clarity of focus.

And, in case you haven’t seen them yet, we’re building a powerful library of films with participants talking passionately about what Grit means for them.  Do take a look!

We hope you have a restful break and return, re-charged and re-invigorated, ready for action.

The Grit Team.

Reflecting on the Journey

Recently we brought together a number of our university partners to reflect on the Grit journey in universities so far. We had a roundtable discussion with colleagues from the universities of Hull, Bath Spa, Nottingham Trent, Chester, Westminster, Christ Church Canterbury, Greenwich and from the Realising Opportunities Collaborative Programme at Newcastle University.

It was a hugely rich and energising conversation with some real insights as to what we could achieve together as a community of organisations committed to creating environments where all students can thrive.

We talked about university staff, about robust evaluation and the stories we tell, and about embedding Grit.

And we agreed about the value of keeping this running community of practice together and to keep sharing our learning.

Thanks for everyone who participated so fully and here’s to next year!

Rob is running for Grit!

In fact he’s doing more than that.

Old friend of Grit, Rob Hutchinson, will be swimming and cycling as well as running when he takes part in the Eton Dorney triathlon in September in support of our work with young people overcoming some of the big challenges in their lives.

What’s more, every £ that Rob raises up to £1,000 will be matched by his employer Thomson Reuters.

Check it out here and spread the word!
